This research project, conducted in August 2022, was carried out by Art School Africa in collaboration with research assistants from Harvard University to support the early stages of the platform’s development. The purpose of this research was to understand the needs of potential stakeholders and assess whether the current design of Art School Africa adequately addressed those needs. Specifically, it was focused on understanding the methods and resources that art professionals currently use to access opportunities and build their networks and the challenges that they face in that process. Additionally, it sought to test the hypothesis that visual arts university students graduate with a wealth of theoretical knowledge but often lack the practical and business skills to succeed in the art industry which would present an opportunity for Art School Africa to close that skills gap.
